Montpellier
Montpellier is a central place in the south of France at 10’ tramway from the Mediterranean see. It is 150 km from Marseille and 350 km from Monaco (East), 350 km from Barcelona (South-West), and 250 km from Toulouse (West). Montpellier is the 8th largest and the fastest growing city in France. It has 300 days of sunshine a year on average. according to the New York Times, Montpellier was unique French city within 45 destinations to go in 2012. Montpellier is the capital of the Region Languedoc-Roussilon to which belong 6 sites of the UNESCO world heritage (see the site Destination Sud de France). Montpellier is a capital of the culture with 2 operas, a national orchestra, numerous theaters, one of the most beautiful museums of Europe (Fabre museum), numerous international festivals (dance, cinema, music). Montpellier has the eldest faculty of the western world still in activity. It is the 5th research city in France. The three universities and several research institutes host nearly 100000 students. Montpellier is the world center of agronomic research because of its prominent research institutes in environmental sciences (INRA, CIRAD, IRSTEA, IRD...). Montpellier also hosts the Consortium of the CGIAR, a strategic alliance that unites organizations involved in agricultural research for sustainable development.

A regional Research Network on granular media entitled «Réseau MiDi» (MiDi Network) was created in 2010 (www.reseau-midi.org). This research network aims at promoting collaborative synergy by removing cultural barriers between researchers working in various areas related to discrete materials in Montpellier and its region.

Hotel information
A number of rooms have been booked in a student residence close to the conference site. The applicants wishing to get a room are invited to pay the corresponding supplement (120€ for 4 nights including breakfast) with the registration.
